Punjab Sacrilege Law
Punjab News: The Punjab government has approved the 'Punjab Prevention of Crimes Against Holy Scriptures Bill-2025'. Under this law, now strict punishment will be given for desecration of religious texts like Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Gita, Quran and Bible. The government has taken this step with the intention of strengthening brotherhood in the state. Now 10 years to life imprisonment can be given for incidents like desecration. Earlier, general sections of IPC were applied on such incidents, which were not enough.
This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at his official residence in Chandigarh. It was decided that those who insult the holy scriptures will not be spared. Such incidents have happened many times in the last few years, which spread anger and tension in the society. The government believes that the old laws were not strict enough to punish the culprits. Therefore, now the Punjab government has taken the initiative to make a separate law at the state level.
Till now there was no such provision in Indian law which had a separate and strict law against the desecration of scriptures of all religions. In most of the cases minor sections were applied and the accused escaped. Due to this there was disappointment among the people about the system. Now the new law will provide justice to the followers of every religion. This will also maintain religious harmony and the conspirators who spread hatred will also be scared.
According to the new bill, if someone intentionally desecrates any holy book, he can be punished with life imprisonment. At the same time, if someone tries to do so, he will be jailed for 3 to 5 years. Apart from this, if someone instigates someone else, he will also be given the same punishment. This law will be equally applicable to all religions. The government says that now such incidents will not be tolerated at all.
The government claims that this new law will promote communal harmony in Punjab. Earlier, whenever any incident happened, tension and fear spread in the society. Now when there will be fear of strict punishment, such incidents will reduce. The trust of the people of the state in the law will increase. The government also said that this step has been taken not for any particular religion, but to protect all religions.
The cabinet has also approved the 'Punjab Crusher Units and Retailers Regulation Rules-2025' related to sand and gravel. The purpose of this law is to prevent illegal mining and royalty theft. Now crusher units and retailers will have to work within the prescribed rules. For this, forms, deadlines and procedures have been fixed. The government's focus is also on transparency and protection of the environment.
In these rules related to mining, emphasis has been laid on making the process clean. Now no unit will be able to buy sand or gravel illegally. Strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules. This will not only control mining, but will also increase government revenue. The government wants that business in the state should run under the legal framework. This will also provide relief to honest businessmen.
